Not all tree cookies are round. Here discussion focuses on the
causes of irregularities—disease, drought, fire, insects, growing on
a slope, or a dead branch.
This is one of the mysteries that encourages detective work and
inference making.

Dr. Vickie Harry presents an overview of science and math process
skills and explains forthcoming investigations and their analyses.

This adjoining room is set up for "round robin" stations, including
two twin science/math activities per table. Participants, in groups
of two, will move among tables (activities) of their choice,
completing them and doing an analysis for math/science process
skills.

Dr. Smith and Dr. Harry give last-minute instructions before SMART
participants select and investigate the combined math/science
activities.

Here participants test surface tension of water, predicting,
investigating, counting, and recording the number of water drops
placed on a penny.

Participants learn first-hand about the powerful cohesive forces
that bind water molecules.

Investigating magnets is fun!

Participants observe, predict, and count the numbers of small
bubbles they can blow.
|
|

Measurement of human body parts has participants finding those parts
that have similar measurements.
