Project Purpose

The primary purpose of this project, MAIS K-6 Science and Mathematics Activities for Region Teachers (Project MAIS SMART), is to:

(1.) Prepare MAIS school grade K-6 teachers to integrate science and mathematics, supplemented by children’s literature, in their own classrooms.

(2.) Serve as SMART leaders to diffuse integrative science/math instructional skills to their school colleagues.

(3.) Utilize and develop FAST (Family Activities in Science and Technology) Pacs for ESL and ESOL students’ use at home with parents and others.

(4.) Share the project worldwide via e-mail, a web site, and a CD distributed by the U.S. Department of State.
